Fatboy Slim's "Role Model" Marks Southern Fried Records' 500th Release Milestone

Hot off the heels of his electrifying last performance at IMS in Ibiza, Fatboy Slim is gearing up for the release of the 500th single on his label, Southern Fried Records, slated for Friday, May 17th. While Fatboy Slim himself is synonymous with dance music royalty, this release shines a spotlight on the label that has quietly but significantly contributed to the electronic music landscape over the years.

Southern Fried Records, founded by Norman Cook and Garry Blackburn in 1994, initially served as an outlet for Cook's Mighty Dub Katz alias. From its inception, the label showcased a diverse array of talent, with early releases from Space Cowboy, Kurtis Mantronix, and Scanty Sandwich. However, it wasn't long before Southern Fried Records found mainstream success, with Ashley Beedle's remix of Elton John's "Are You Ready For Love" hitting the No.1 spot and Armand Van Helden's "My My My" and "I Want Your Soul" becoming dancefloor staples.

Fast forward to today, and Southern Fried Records is on the brink of a monumental achievement with its 500th release, "Role Model," courtesy of label head Fatboy Slim himself. The track, which marks Fatboy Slim's first original piece of music this year, is characterized by its infectiously catchy tune, trademark vocal effects, and a melody that exudes energy and excitement. Already a mainstay in Fatboy Slim's sets, "Role Model" is poised to leave an indelible mark on the dance music scene.

To commemorate this milestone, "Role Model" will be available in both digital and physical formats, including a limited run of 500 special edition acid-print vinyls for dedicated fans and collectors. The track's bass-driven beats, electrifying motifs, and ironic vocals make it a must-have addition to any music lover's collection.

Southern Fried Records isn't just celebrating this achievement with a release; they're throwing a party. During IMS 2024, the label will host a celebratory event at Akasha, featuring performances by Fatboy Slim, La La, and Hayley Zalassi. With a new logo, merchandise, and branded parties planned for the future, Southern Fried Records is poised to continue its legacy of innovation and excellence in the electronic music industry.

"Role Model" isn't just another single—it's a testament to the enduring legacy of Fatboy Slim and the groundbreaking work of Southern Fried Records. As we celebrate this milestone release, we're reminded of the label's ability to shape the course of electronic music and inspire generations of artists and fans alike. Here's to the next 500 releases and beyond.
